Our friends at Still Gardening do an amazing job. They're currently looking for more volunteers, and sent us this note to share:

Love gardening? Enjoy company? Like to do something useful with your day? So do we!

The Still Gardening Program connects volunteer Garden Mates with elderly clients who live independently and love to garden but need a little bit of help. Garden Mates visit regularly to enjoy sharing some light work in the garden, a good chat and a cuppa.  We are currently recruiting new Garden Mates as we have an ever-growing list of clients wanting assistance.

Still Gardening aims to help elderly people, and people with a disability, continue to live in their own homes, and enjoy their gardens rather than become overwhelmed by them. We see gardening as an enjoyable and thoroughly rewarding health-promoting activity – helping people to stay active, mentally engaged, get regular sunlight (for vitamin D) and fresh air, and with company it’s a lovely way to keep spirits high.

Want to be a Garden Mate and help out an older person in your community? Give us a call! 6236 9349 or email stillgardening@hobartcity.com.au
